A few thousand believers scattered in a sea of Islam.
A country that is more than 95% Muslim.
A magnificent country, rich in several cultures and a heritage of tolerance, where the Church enjoys a freedom that it rarely has elsewhere in this context.
A country where the Gospel has difficulty in being heard, so much religion penetrates all aspects of daily life and thought. Few can even consider believing otherwise.
Those who leave the tradition often face rejection and social exclusion. Rural Senegal is a particularly conservative environment, where it is both urgent and difficult for the Church to bring a message of Hope.
